Volunteers

Kurt Florman

MOW Driver

I have no idea what in my background qualifies me for what I do as a volunteer. Maybe just 85 years of living experience?

I deliver MoW every week, but I don’t remember when I started. I am also responsible for the aluminum can recycling program.

It took me a long time — way too long — to finally volunteer as a MoW driver. But it turned out to be a good experience for me. I enjoy it, and I see how I’m helping the YRCC.

I am committed to recycling everything I can, so doing the aluminum can recycling is just a natural thing to do. I volunteer regularly as a driver to transport anyone to most anything: pickup from hospital, shopping in Prescott, driving to and from medical appointments. The beard may or may not have a limited lifetime.

Maureen Schufft

Club Yarnell Coordinator & Thrift Store

I volunteer twice a week in the processing room, where we accept, inspect, clean, and price all donations, then distribute to the appropriate place for sale within the
thrift store and various sheds. I am also a backup store cashier, when needed. l'm the birthday lunch cashier in the Mid-Day Cafe on the last Friday of each month.
I also have a special interest in merchandising and displaying women's and men's clothing items within the store. I create a monthly summary of the "Club Yarnell" activities/events at YRCC. I'm a YRCC service area ambassador and coordinator of the group.
I volunteer as a team member on YRCC events such as: March 4 Meals, Food-Fun-Fashion, Art Show & Craft Fair, and Saturday Night at the HUB. I've been volunteering at the YRCC for 9 years. It brings me great joy and I believe it keeps me healthy and humble. I also love the
sense of "community" that the YRCC represents. Art (drawing, painting), crafts, exercise, hiking, swimming, ice-skating, friends & family time, traveling the world.  I would recommend volunteering to anyone who wants to feel good about themselves and wishes to connect with other people.

Trish Edwards

Dining Desk

Currently, I volunteer at the Mid-Day Cafe front desk, welcoming lunch guests. Over the past thirteen years, I have served YRCC, under three directors,  in various roles, including sorting donations, working at the Thrift Store checkout desk, assisting in the kitchen, setting up the salad bar, and cleaning up. I volunteer simply to lend a hand wherever and when needed, but I especially value the connections made with our community, sharing our village with visitors, and the friendships I have built over the last decades.
In addition to time at YRCC, I serve as an officer on the Board of Directors for both the YFD Auxiliary and the Yarnell Water Improvement Association. I am also a founding member of Yarnell-Glen Ilah FireWise and a Deacon at Yarnell Presbyterian Church. Following the Yarnell Hill Fire, I coordinated Yarnell Daze for five years under Yarnell Chamber of Commerce.

Our YRCc has not just sustained throughout the decades but is thriving.
Lived in Az since 1977, I am a retired special education teacher. My husband Chuck and I have raised two daughter,  and have owned our home in Glen Ilah since 1992.   Outside of my YRCC time, I enjoy gardening, sewing, playing the violin, singing with Weaver Mountain Chorale and  hanging with my granddaughter.

Carrie Daniel

Thrift Store

Carrie brings a special attitude to her time at the YRCC. She has been a volunteer for three years and her empathy and compassion for others extends far beyond a casual "hello." Carrie brings a light to the YRCC, welcoming every person she encounters with a big smile and friendly hello. While her work at the YRCC usually focuses on helping out in the processing room for the thrift store, Carrie takes the time to get to know others and make them feel welcome. Helping others is a huge part of Carrie's giving heart, allowing her kindness to pour over into others and helping her keep a clear and happy mind in the process. When not bringing her happy smile and warm hugs to the YRCC, Carrie enjoys prisms and enjoying light in all forms.

Maddie Schultz

Dining Desk & Thrift Store

Maddie has been volunteering at the YRCC for three years. She works three days a week in the processing room for the thrift store and every Thursday at the dining desk for breakfast. As a retired nurse, she left her log home on 40 acres to be close to Yarnell where she made several friends, and then decided to volunteer at the YRCC to keep active. Outside of the YRCC, Maddie meets with friends weekly to play dominoes, and she enjoys being able to call on her experience as a nurse to help others. Maddie is 83 years young and knows that her volunteer work is important in helping to keep her moving, and she also hopes it might help encourage others to volunteer too. She previously had two beloved horses and many furry friends that have helped enrich her life over the years. She believes animals are important to life as a human.
